What's your view of the role of volume in technical analysis?

Most other technical analysts use volume as an input, together with price, whereas you seem to ignore it mostly in your book and in your webcast.

I kinda gave up following volume closely quite a while ago when I thought it started to be distorted by program trading and other arbitrage activity. Since then, of course, the friendly high frequency traders have made matters even worse. I. personally, therefore watch volume only out of the corner of my eye -- although I will readily confess that many successful analysts pay a lot more attention to it than I do.
